Hola, aquí Cafecito with a View. I’m still recovering from Covid, it’s only Tuesday and this week has already been eventful.
First, one of the best, brutally honest, brilliant, sweet hurricane of a woman who I had the fortune to meet, work and with whom I shared meals and drinks, passed away last Thursday from a stroke. She was 47 and made the best empanadas, rice, pork, cakes… anything and everything in the kitchen she put her mind to; fed us numerous times at the Museum and gave us resiliency lessons every day with her locker-art (I so wish I had taken pictures of her designs during that time). She was a Caribbean hurricane, loved hard and hated hard, and told you so regardless of consequences. She inevitably ended many conversations with a (very) loud laugh and a “you so stupid!”. RIP, dear YFG.
Second, I’m on the uphill of this illness and my niece is dipping in a terrible strep throat. She’s feverish because of the terrible infection and mom and I don’t know what else to give her besides pain killers and antibiotics. (I hope sleep will help her healing process)
Then my boss. Oh, my boss! (but I won’t say more on that here. “Uno no patea la lonchera”, dicen)
But like the title of this post said: Voting night. What do you say about voting? There are 34 million Latino registered voters in the United States as of November, 2022. Read that again. Think of the implications, the power, the reach! So far, Republicans are winning. Back to the 18th century. Buckle up and brace yourself.
What are your retirement plans?
I feel like having a kahlua cafecito with this view…
However, I am being a responsible adult and I’m having a non-alcoholic cafecito with my voting sticker as my view.
